Bumthang

Tang Ugyen Choling Palace

It is located in Tang valley which is 1 hour drive from Chamkhar town. The Ugyen Choling palace belonged to chieftains of Tang valley and the linage comes from one of the religious master Longchen Ramjam Lingpa. It is one of rare palace of chieftains which we can still see after the country was unified by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. Currently it is converted into museum and one can see very old and rare artifacts preserved for decades.

Jakar Dzong

It is located on ridge overlooking the beautiful valley of Chamkhar town in Bumthang. The name Jakar Dzong meaning “the castle of white bird” and it was built in 16th century and later upgraded in 17th century.

Jambay Lhakhang

It is located in Chokhor village which is 10 minutes’ drive from Chamkhar town. The temple is one of the oldest temples in the country and it was built in 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo and is one of the 108 temples built in Himalayan ranges.

Tamzhing Temple

The temple was built by Terton Pema Lingpa in early 16th century who is popularly known as treasure discoverer and he is also considered as heart son of Guru Rinpoche. It is located 15 minute drive from Chamkhar town.

Mebartsho

It is located 30 minutes away from Chamkhar town by drive. It is considered as one of the most sacred sites where the treasure discoverer Terton Pema Lingpa has discovered the hidden treasure from the lake.

Kurje Lhakhang

It is located 15 minute drive from Chamkhar town. The monastery comprises of three temples (the main cave was blessed by Guru Rinpoche in 8th century and temple was built in 17th century, second temple was built by first king sir Ugyen Wangchuk and third one was built by Ashi Kesang Choden wangchuk in 20th century)

Kenchosum Temple

The temple was blessed by Guru Rinpoche in 8th century and later built a small temple and later in 2010 it was destroyed by the fire and it was re-built into bigger temple. It houses seat of Nyingma sect and monks who study and live there and it is located near Tamshing temple.

Ura Valley

The valley is part of the larger Bumthang district with a cluster of traditional houses with Ura temple in the center. The temple house the large statue of Guru Rinpoche and remarkable wall paintings of the cycle of his teaching. It is located 1 hour drive from Chamkhar town towards Old Bumthang – Monger highway.
