This is one of Bhutan’s finest treks. The route starts from Paro through high alpine country to Chomolhari camp. The trek leads through high mountain passes into the wilderness above the tree line with spectacular views of impressive world of snow peaks, glacial lakes and herds of blue sheep, alpine blossoms and home of the hospitable Layaps.

Itenerary

Day 1

Arrive Paro

On arrival at Paro airport, you will be received by our representative and take you for sightseeing and transferred to your hotel in Paro.
Day 2

Paro Sightseeing

Hike to Taktsang (Tiger Nest). Then visit to Kyichu temple (one of the oldest temples built in 7th century by Tibetan King Songtshen Gompo. Overnight at hotel in Paro
Day 3

Paro – Shana (17km, approximately 6hrs)

The trek starts from Drugyel Dzong (2580m) with a short downhill walk on a wide trail. The trail then climbs gently through well maintained rice terraces and fields of millet. After that we reach to the army post of Gunitsawa (2800m). As we gradually climb up, we will reach to our camping place for a night.
Day 4

Shana – Soi Thangthangkha (20km, approximately 7hrs)

The trails follows the Paa-chu (Paro River) ascending and descending through pine, oak and spruce forest. As we climb u gradually, we will enter into the thick forest of rhododendrons and we reach to our camp site.
Day 5

Soi Thangthangkha – Jangothang (19km, approximately 7hrs)

This trek starts with a army camp while walking few minutes from our camp site and then we follow the river above the tree line enjoying the stunning view of surrounding view of mountain peaks. Overnight camp at Jangothang (4000m) where the stunning view of Chomolhari and Jichu Drake are seen
Day 6

Jangothang – Lingshi (18km, approximately 6hrs)

The trail follows the stream for a few minutes and then crosses the bridge to the right bank. Then we climb u gradually to the first ridge enjoying the breathtaking view of Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tserimgang. Then we hike u to Nyele-la pass (4700m) and then descend down to Lingshi enjoying the panoramic view of Lingshi Dzong. Overnight camp at Lingshi (4000m)
Day 7

Lingshi – Chebisa (10km, approximately 4hrs)

Proceeding further from LingshiDzong, we will walk down through village and Yak harder’s camp. Overnight camp by the side of the stream at Chebisa (3800m)
Day 8

Chebisa - Shomuthang (17km, approximately 6hrs)

The day begins with the stiff climb to Gomby-la (4400m) and later the trail again climbs over a small ridge through a cedar forest. The trail descends through a muddy path into the main Jholethang valley in a deep forest of fir and birch. Then from there the trail go across high above the valley (4300m) and overnight camp at Shomuthang.
Day 9

Shomuthang - Robluthang(18km, approximately 6hrs)

The trail begins with climbing up to Jari-la pass (4700m) and then descends to Tasharijathang valley (the summer residence of rare Himalayan Takin). Later after crossing the stream, the trail ascends till you reach Robluthang camp (4200m).
Day 10

Robluthang - Limithang (19km, approximately 7hrs)

This day is long as well as tough crossing Shinje-la (4900m) which is the last and highest passes en route. From there, the route descends through a rough and rocky trail that follows the glacial valley. Overnight at Limithang
Day 11

Limithang – Laya (10km, approximately 3hrs)

The walk to Laya is very pleasant with wonderful views. You will pass through a dense forest covered with moss and singing birds. Overnight camp at Laya (3800m)
Day 12

Laya – Koina (19km, approximately 7hrs)

Descend to the army camp and join the Mo-chu River. Follow the river till you cross the bridge and after that bridge, hike through the conifers forest until you reach to Chamsa camp site (3500m)
Day 13

Koina – Gasa Tsachu (17km, approximately 4hrs)

Hike to the Bari-la (3900m) where you will see the prayers flags hanging around and then descend down through bamboo forest to Gasa Tsachu. Overnight camp at Gasa (2200m)
Day 14

Gasa - Punakha

In the morning you will drive to Punakha and visit various places.
Day 15

Punakha - Thimphu

In the morning, hike to Khamsum Yuelley Chorten, Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang, Dochu-la pass and then drive to Thimphu
Day 16

Thimphu - Paro

Sightseeing in Thimphu(Buddha point, memorial chorten, Heritage museum, Changangkha temple, Zorig Chusum (traditional arts and crafts centre) and Takin zoo), Simply Bhutan Mesuem and by evening drive to Paro and night in Paro
Day 17

Depart from Paro Airport

After breakfast, drive to airport for flight to onward destination.
